Exactly. But, so often, what people are taught growing up or at some other vulnerable part of their lives outweighs any evidence or logic. Cults know that and the Catholic Church certainly knows that. If you read one comment on the Daily News story posted online, the writer says that Satan is attacking the church on Holy Week. Nary a comment from that deluded soul about responsibility or the victims. Other people still think Jim Jones was a saint. Others wait for The Mother Ship. Faith is wonderful and cannot be argued with.

I remember visiting Notre Dame Cathedral with one of my most atheistic friends. He was studying to be an architect and I just like big, old places. When we left, a nun was taking collections at the door. He put his last 10 francs into her hand.

I asked him why an atheist would give to the church. He said, "they just have a way of making you feel like you have to do it." I wasn't raised Catholic, so it didn't work on me. Ten minutes later, I did share half my liverwurst sandwich with him, as he was broke and the telegrahed money from a third friend had yet to show up at American Express, so I guess The Vatican got me to donate indirectly. <G>

Wow, was I poor that year. I hate liverwurst. He would have never gotten a bite of bologna. <G>
