This bloodbath is inevitable but seems to be beginning sooner than I predicted. Our departure will definitely create a power void. Starting to look like the fight to fill that void has begun and before we get out. That does not bode well for the Petraeus Army manual and plan. It also creates a significant force protection liability for our own troops while they await departure. There is one rule about combat that I never forgot. "It can always get worse." latimes.com
