Can anyone explain this: I have no current positions.....all cash.....not margined.....nada......yet, Datek is allowing me only 15% of my cash as "available cash" in which to trade. Are they trying to confiscate 85% of my cash?

It will come as no surprise to most of you that I have been unable to speak to a human being at Datek. So I am appealing to y'all.

Thanks.....

CHUB

They claim to do NASDAQ, AMEX, and NYSE, however NASDAQ is what they concentrate on. I understand they route their NYSE orders through another affiliated broker. 9.99 sounds cheap but you don't necessarily get your trade routed the best way, especially when the Island ECN doesn't have liquidity in that particular security. They are also allowed to make money in other ways off of your trade. (They are a business after all). They can give you those low commisions especially due to Islands $1/trade charge to them. I also understand that SNET charges for trades has been reduced to $1.25 till the end of the year.

Does Datek allow you to trade NYEX stocks?
Seems like this is a great deal with the 9.95 fees
and the unlimited real-time quotes.
How would you compare to Etrade or other larger
on-line broker.
Comments?

If you mean NYEX=NYSE+AMEX :-) then yes.
Tell me what you expect from a broker and I'll tell you my opinion on how it compares. It all depends on what you need.
