But for oil money and western influence, they'd be riding camels and living in tents. And herding goats as you say.

I don't approve or disprove. It's how it is. They are still desert goat herding sheikhs, now just with more money. Let's not pretend that what little liberty they permit is for any purpose but to attract foreign workers and foreign expertise to stay long enough to build their glass towers.

When the oil runs out, they will go back to herding goats and killing each other with wanton casualness

I was not going to reply to your earlier note to me, but this(and the recommendations) show a lot of ignorance of the situation.

Neither Bahrain or Dubai has much oil. That is why they have focused on other areas like banking and commerce. Dubai also has a tourism business, mostly from Europe.

Yes they have different types of goverments. So it will be different from the US.

Yes the culture of the natural citizens is quite different from the culture of the US.

However many expatriates enjoy working and living in these countries. Bahrain is one of the most accommodating places in the world for expats.

Of course being an expat is not for everyone so many may not like it.

I am speaking as a long time resident of the middle east, which I believe qualifies me to understand and speak of the situation.

Blessings

Neil
