Specialist, this is the type of post that used to characterize this
thread. Fundamentals, enabling investors to take ownership in a
solid well managed company. Near term volatility is noise against
the notion of owning part of such a great company. I am waiting for the traders to get shaken out so they may be replaced by long term investors who are looking to make real money over the longer haul.

Thanks for your very helpful response. Does anyone know whether Cymer licensed the patents for their laser, or have their own? My patent attorney friend says that "it" (he didn't say whether it was the laser or the Deep UV lithography) was intitially developed by Srinivasan at IBM. Does anyone know anything about this?

TS, the referenced article on the Sematech lithography summit pretty well supports your prognosis on optical litho capabilities and timetable, although it sees competing technologies, be it XRL e-beam or other, that will be production qualified in 2004. Comments? techweb.cmp.com Tulvio
