<IMHO the Fed must choose between monetizing or Congress must raise taxes and curtail spending (politically unlikely)> I agree -- but to that I would add that they will need to reverse the trade deficit and quadruple the savings rate in addition to raising taxes and cutting spending -- i.e. deal with the full range of underlying international causes of the current account deficit and not only the very serious domestic ones. Probability of any of that happening? Nil. Probability of monetizing? 100%. Buy gold.
