Yes, I think you are right. My opinion, though, is that the GOP purists are destroying the party. The GOP can't be purist and win enough votes to retake the majority in Congress or the Presidency. They have to be bigger tent.

The purists are the old country club liberals. The Democrats went left of them and they still haven't figured this out. Conservative originally meant traditional, but now most think of it as less government. People like Frum don't understand that the purists and the minority are actually them.
