Just a WAG but, I think the new product may not be N-hand. The product might be a smaller disk drive for "real estate" reduction. The smaller(than Zip) disks may be compatible with the Zip using an adapter. IMO if this is the new product then even the smallest notebook assemblies can have built-in Zip compatibility.
