(So, if you are looking for "who" is pushing for an American VAT you are probably looking behind the wrong tree. <GGG>)

Interesting assessment... except the White House is now considering it as the only way to pay for the health care pipe dream, they calculate a 20% VAT would bring in one trillion a year...<g>

Seems to me with VAT, businesses are forced to pay tax on goods that potentially may never ever even be able to sell or if they do sell it's a discount and a loss, increasing their losses even more. The cost of inventories will be a lot higher. Also seems like the paperwork and administrative costs have to be enormous.
