All sorts of people said all sorts of things about the issue. The fact that others agree with you isn't much of an argument for your point. Also most of the others that agree in general terms didn't actually say "economic Armageddon" or words to that effect. The thought is more that the stimulus helped at the margin not that it kept us from actually going over a cliff and having 30% unemployment rates etc. And even that idea is not uncontroversial, and is far from solidly established.
