TOKYO, Apr. 7, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Wednesday it will build a factory to manufacture wind turbines in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The new plant, to be operated by the Florida-based Mitsubishi Power systems Americas Inc., will commence manufacturing in the second half of 2011 with an initial annual production capacity of 600 megawatts, the company said.

It will fabricate nacelles, a core component located at the top of a wind turbine tower to convert wind energy into electricity. It consists of a generator, rotor axis, multiplying gearbox, control system and electrical equipment.
