FYI about reality...

We have VAT in the UK and if not in the whole of Europe. Different countries have different tax levels along with different exemptions. In the UK, books and cold food were exempt. It’s not too noticable for small purchases less than £50 (= +£10). But it really adds up when you want to buy a car or PC.

It’s bad enough that dollars get translated into pounds and for every £500 you do spend, that’s another £100 that you don’t get to spend for yourself. A mid-range PC at £1600 before VAT, becomes £2000 after VAT. So, you are far better off customizing your own PC so that you only spend VAT on the high-end components that you really need, rather than one super-expensive system.

It really becomes like Ronald Reagan’s failed luxury yacht tax.
