Actually, this is not totally good news since I think he would have been the easiest democrat to defeat. The democrats' chances actually improve with him out which is undoubtedly why the democrat powers forced him to decide this. It'll be interesting to see what golden parashoot they give him.

stupak resigned because he has another obama-admin-lined-up job somewhere. this was the plan and the payoff for the vote. i do not think this could be more transparent. just watch what happens for stupak's next move to some kind of job. the only thing that would have made this more transparent would have been stupak's changing is vote and announcing his retirement in the same announcement. these people are all invertebrates.
