The planet is not at risk. Certain life forms may be, the path we have pursued to advance civilization may be (although that presumption is far from resolute) but the planet is doing just fine.

<<Nancy Pelosi said it herself ... twice, "I'm trying to save the planet.">>

Of course, this is obviously evil. Good is the person who says, "I'm trying to cut Ten's taxes."

I'm all for drilling everywhere, taxing the heck out of it, and using the proceeds for alternative energy research. That might not be much different from your position. But you are allied with people who hate oil, hate coal, and believe in fairy tales powered by solar and wind.

I've been 100% consistently for all forms of energy and 100% consistent in saying we need to become oil independent. The real difference between you and me is that you think the GOP is serious about alternatives to oil and coal. I used to think that as well until I started examining voting records and realized that the GOP talked a good game on renewables, but never did anything other than pay lip-service to it. As such, I realized that if I wanted to support that agenda, I'd have to vote for Democrats.

Dem motivations are a bit more strident than mine and they are mostly anti-oil drilling as you say. However, oil will take care of itself. So oil doesn't need help nor protection. They are already a heavily entrenched, heavily profitable force in this country. Renewables are not and they need to be incubated. The GOP will never do that. The Dems will if given have a chance, even if they do it for reasons that aren't exactly the same as mine.

I'm a pragmatist. I'll ally myself with people that will achieve my goal of oil independence. This country will reap a whirlwind of benefit for generations, if we were to achieve that one goal. So it's worth it to me. It will be my lasting gift to my children and grandchildren.
