I had an old Datsun and Honda, but I've never bought a foreign vehicle new.

Holy Cow! At least my Chrysler products had the good grace to fail in a relatively safe place.

What was the tranny failure? We had one coming into Kennewick. Clunk, no power to the wheels.

Cause: lack of maintenance to the tranny. Which I disbelieved because I had the fluid replaced regularly. The problem was the Chrysler tranny had two chambers, and the people I paid to service the thing did not service the second one.

The same car had a timing chain failure. I asked the guy at the shop why Chrysler built so many failures into their products and he just shrugged his shoulders like he knew what I was talking about. Apparently the timing chain is supposed to be replaced after 75,000 miles, and we had 125,000 on it. Nobody told us.
