I got to browsing in the WHOIS database on death rates. Just for the convenience of comparison I pulled aside a few columns from the spreadsheet. Turned out to be Australia, UK, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, France, and the US. My choices were in part happenstance. I took Finland just because it was next to France so an easy get. Could move two columns at once. Found plenty to occupy my attention.

Only Australia had a lower all-cause death rate than the US. Finland was considerably higher and the UK dramatically higher.

The US was on the low side in self-inflicted injuries. Finland was more than double.

The US was dramatically high on violence--eight times higher than France, which was the lowest, and nearly four times higher than second place, which was Australia.

The US is way ahead of the pack in respiratory infections but near the bottom of the pack in respiratory diseases.

It's an interesting data base to browse.

Sorry, you seemed to be coming across as a GOP member. I didn't mean to offend you by calling you one.

GOP is the lesser of the statist evils. They are still - generally - closer to the view that the Constitution is a set of rules, rather than a Rorschach test, where anyone is free to"discover" whatever they want.
