I don't think they care who wins. They simply want pipes to every home. If Gates thought money would move the telcos, he'd be writing checks like there was no tomorrow. He knows they have to want to deploy ADSL and that will happen when competition starts breathing down their throats. Already statistics are showing data is catching up with voice in terms of minutes of usage, so how long before telcos realize this is the growing market and if they don't offer differentiated services somebody else will?

Gives new meaning to, "Do not ask to know for whom the bell tolls. . ."

Cheers!

Ed [MSFT]

Including the US West deal, they now have $2 billion invested in cable companies and their recent purchase of WebTV wasn't small change (maybe to MSFT it was).

And TCI will make it $3 Billion.

I still firmly believe that a lot of this cash will be used by the Cable Co's to bid in the LMDS Spectrum Auctions Dec. 10th.

Hey the timing is right!

We will see how fast ole Billy Boy invests $1 Billion in TCI. He still has 4 1/2 weeks left before the Auction.
