Japan did not surrender after the first bomb was dropped. I dont believe this decision was made willy nilly either as some would believe.

From what I have read if there were other options they were not being considered. The plan was to invade, we were doing it at great cost all they way to Okinawa already.

People fail to realize we rained napalm on them in a devastating manner for months, I think this was far more damaging than the nukes.

Silent Victory by Blair Clay I believe was very critical of execution of the submarine war. Instead of battleships and aircraft carriers I believe the argument was that a blockade would have stopped their war effort much sooner.

Well I meant WMD against the USA. Sure they know retaliation will be hard, now they also know that it wont include a proportionate WMD response.
