If they had taken a realistic look at the situation at the start of WWII, they would have joined Hitler in a war against the Soviets.

That would have been insane, due to Hitler's racial policies. He hated the Slavs almost as much as the Jews, and he intended to exterminate them too.

I think Buchanan is fooling himself that Hitler could have been a partner with Poland or anyone else. Poland at the start of WWII didn't have any good choices.

Buchanan (as is his wont) ignores what Hitler was actually saying and doing. And no matter what the final result of a war between the Nazis and Soviets, Poland would have been devastated. And under the control of one or the other.
