Personally, I am in favor of severely restricting grants except for medical research and, even then, ensuring that the research proposals are well scrutinized. Too much money is being handed out to the non-productive and, in some cases, the actually harmful types like the ACLU and ACORN. Those who wish to fund such organizations are free to do so. After all, folks like Buffett don't think they pay enough taxes. Let them fund these organizations instead of the taxpayer.
