<<What is that as a % of total? If it is 20% that makes a buffer.>>

The short pct.? It's just under 20%.

Well, excellent volume today. Many people getting in. If we can continue the trend of going up about a half point a day, we'll be right about where we were Aug. 5. In the nineteens just before Jobs makes his announcements.

I'm not planning on any mergers, etc. Not even a big NC announcement with Oracle. (Certainly not anything with Lucent.) However, these things could happen. More likely, we'll get the machines, the online store, and something extra.

Most of my bet is on Global Village anyway. An online store for Apple would give everyone a chance to toss in a GVIL 56k modem with their order.

As far as Christmas vs the Jan.-March quarter, I believe that Apple has a better chance to show a profit now due to pent-up demand for G3s, the fact that they've already paid in advance for any layoffs and in fact should have a surplus from that fund, and the historical trend that Apple usually does 5-20% better in revenue when comparing Christmas Q to March Q.

The announced short position of 20+ million shares would take 11.67 days of AAPL's normal trading volume of 1.7 million shares/day to unwind.

If all those shares tried to cover at the same time, AAPL's price chart would form the back of God.
