There's no reason why a completely interactive GUI builder for C++ could not be simply constructed on top of MFC and it's no surprise why that hasn't been done. I am seriously considering doing it myself having come to the shocking conclusion that for all their millions and billions, Borland, Microsoft and others have no concept of how to put together such a system. Having created some foundational components and a basic infrastructure to work around their crap, it's obvious to me how it should be done and it's equally obvious that it is not rocket science. I have to believe that Visual Basic and Delphi preclude them from doing anything other than making life difficult for C++ developers. As for lanugage independent COM, I read an MSJ article which basically states that being language independence means assembly-language data types since that's the only thing ALL languages support. This is why Java is catching on so strongly: you can have a modern object-oriented language with modern object-oriented components in modern objected-oriented system instead of putting a damn anchor around your neck and writing software circa 1960.
