I'm not saying your information is incorrect it just isn't correct for anyone I know. 1) 35 hour work week. Wrong 40 hr week, no paid lunch break two 15 minute breaks if time is available 2) 3 paid Personal leave days. Correct but it is actually represented as 24 hours. If you are late or need to leave early that comes out of personal, sick or vacation time depending upon the reason 3) Vacation, 12 days when you start and it goes up to 5 weeks with 20 years. Incorrect 15 days, 3 weeks, accrues 10 hours a month. Not sure if it ever goes up. 4) Sick days (which accrue like vacation), correct 5) 12 Holidays. I think that is correct 6) Let's not forget the coffee breaks built into the 35 hours. Incorrect See above. I think by law everyone (even private sector) is allowed 2 15 minutes break. Also depending on the nature of the job one doesn't have something to do every single moment, I have seen this in the private sector and it makes staffing very difficult. 7) Pension is 2% / year of average salary and you need 10 years to vest. Incorrect for current hirees it may be correct for those on the original plan or the next lower plan. Current plan is the third level plan- Pension is 1.3% not sure about the time to vest. At 1.3% it is practically impossible to earn a pension that is more than 70% of your salary. The issue of overtime is addressed below. 8) The state just had a buyout where they added 3 years of service. Correct. 9) Health benefits (I think as a compromise in the last budget the employee contribution went for 25 to 55 / month or contributing $660 for a $18,000 benefit. About correct Depends which plan one elects and the 55 is for a single person. New hires and those with less than five years of employment by some date this year who will have to contribute extra for medical insurance when they retire. That was part of the compromise. 10) Flex time (I know of one state employee who works 4 ten hour days one week and 3 ten hour days the next and takes 3 and 4 day weekends respectively). Incorrect, no such thing as flex time among the state employees I know. There is also no overtime among the state employees I know. You can accumulate comp time but it most be used relatively soon or it expires. 11) Guaranteed bonus after 10 years. There are longevity payments after around 10 years. Twice a year, but they are not that much or so I ma told. 12) Tuition reimbursement. Not that I know of. Are you aware there positions which require advanced degrees in law and social work?
