The current GOP reveres Reagan for all the wrong reasons. They are touting Reagan as their idol, but they give Reagan credit for all of their wacko thinking, even when they themselves don't understand what Reagan stood for.

Very well said. Like with most idols, too many people have created their own personal myths around the guy.

I'm another big believer in Reagan, but the real Reagan, not the one the current GOP has made up in their minds. And I agree, the real Reagan wanted a reduction in nukes, although in his lifetime, the opposite was achieved.

What sane person doesn't want a reduction in nukes. What I don't understand is why 30% of the American population is insane and doesn't want a reduction.

I explained this to you several months ago. Reagan's entire philosophy was that nuclear weapons were atrocious.

But when Reagan proposed SDI, and for the ensuing years -- up until RIGHT NOW -- the Left has bashed the very concept. Only months ago CJ was here arguing SDI was a failure, which of course, is an absurd claim.

Last week, Gates himself stated that THE REASON we could consider a reduction in nukes is improved defensive systems. All of which are derivatives of the former SDI concept which Reagan invented. (CJ will give Gore credit for the Internet, but he damned well refuses to give Reagan credit for SDI. Shocking.)

It is a laudable goal and I suspect what Obama has done is harmless and perhaps marginally helpful.

It would not be conceivable without Reagan having previously laid the groundwork with SDI.
