I have a daughter in the first grade. She got up this morning and before I woke up she read 20 pages of a book I bought her yesterday. She did not read because I taught her how to read. She is able to read because she has a wonderful teacher -- a government employee -- who knows how to excite and stimulate and channel the learning abilities and curiosity of the little people she teaches every day. There is probably not a person on these threads who is more capable of doing this magical job -- and she works damn hard at it. I am so sick of smug assholes on this thread who could not hold a candle to the average first grade teacher bellyaching about things of which they are totally ignorant. The feces that passes for 'truth' that effortlessly rolls out of people's mouths around here is foul and rotten ideology unobstructed by anything real. My daughter's education is the most priceless thing in my life -- and I am so blessed to have a well educated, loving, dedicated government employee to help give here the best possible start in life.
