However, the statements about business being "fine" and about next year being "better than this year" were certainly non-committal enough, and I agree that the questions you suggest would have been interesting, although it would be unusual to hear CNBC go into that much detail. Also, I think one problem was that they were hurrying because the President was supposed to speak any minute.
