Apparently the $10mil was how much goes to the queen and her properties in the UK, while the $50mil is how much for everything at all related to the relationship, including the Governor General and his office, the provision lieutenant-governors, etc.

If I was Canadian, I might not want to pay it, but it probably wouldn't be a huge issue to me, and if it was it would not be because of the money ($50mil isn't very significant to a rich country), but because of the symbolism and ideas behind it. If you support those and actually care about them $50mil is cheap. If you don't like them than $1 is too dear.

I'll probably drop out of this conversation after this post. Its not really something I care about much.
