Tim, tell me HOW you would avoid massive deficits right now. I wouldn't. Even if I was president I wouldn't have the political power to make the needed changes, and also the changes need to be done over time, all at once is too much of a shock to the economy, and to many people who had set their lives around the various programs. Lower deficits than Obama, wouldn't be hard, but "avoiding massive deficits" probably isn't in the cards for now, and a balanced budget isn't for the next several years either.
