I wonder if this could happen elsewhere to Republican Candidates who are challenged from the right.

Possible. There are other possibilities, thinking as I type: McCain in Arizona; Bennett in Utah would have been Specter in PA had he not changed parties no doubt this possibility worries Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe in Maine (someone running to their right in the primary and/or against them as an independent in the general); someone is likely to run to Brown's right in MA since he seems an inept politician.

It looks as if it's a positive for the Dems in every case. Driving the Rep candidate further right. Or splitting the general electorate in a three way race.
