Ted, I understand your desire to be like Germany who banned all expressions of Nazism. But here in America, we treasure our individualism and our freedoms, including our freedom to express ourselves.

Of course, the First Amendment has limits, but that all depends on who gets to declare what is obscene or not. Plenty of people think the nude bike tours through Seattle is obscene. You don't mind offending them?

However, we are not talking about the American flag. We are talking about a strong symbol of the confederacy.....one that stands for slavery, secession and civil war. There is a significant difference.

You need a history lesson, that flag did not represent the Confederate government. Officially it was the battle flag of the Army of Tennessee battle flag and called the Southern Cross. I am not sure but I believe it predates the civil war.

The Confederate flag was the stars and bars, stainless flag, and the blood stained banner. Their were other unofficial flags, possibly the most famous was the Bonnie Blue.

After the war it was decided that because it supposedly represented slavery that non of the official confederate flags would mark the grave of confederate soldiers. They instead chose various battle flags of which the Southern Cross was the most popular.

This is why some, many who have relatives with that flag marking their tombstone, are upset when some ignoramus says it represents the Confederate government.
