During the same week, faculty from the Mises Institute helped kick off the Instituto Ludwig von Mises Brasil with a conference on the Austrian School in Porto Alegre. Helio Beltrão is heading the effort, with great energy and enthusiasm for the cause. Attendance was very high, and all the talks by both the US contingent and the Brazilian scholars were outstanding. The state in Brazil has made ghastly advances into every area of economic life, and at very high cost: the economy that should be producing miracles is not. But interventionism has been dealt a serious blow with the founding of MisesBrasil. See Lew Rockwell's report.
