DR vs Haiti. The issue is not strong vs weak central government it is totally corrupt vs reasonably clean government.

Both the Haitian and the DR government are corrupt. But Haiti/DR was a subtopic. The fact remains that you don't get many prosperous countries with small, weak central governments. If you can name a half dozen...

And yes corruption plays a huge part in prosperity as well.

(And you could use the chicken/egg argument; prosperous countries spawn large central government. But they seem to have longevity to me).
