The founding fathers allowed for procedures to change the constitution - they didn't simply say liberals can make up anything they want and call it the constitution.

The founding fathers didn't create a guidebook, they created limitations on government because they knew that an overreaching government could be a powerful force against liberty.

They also knew that flexibility was needed, that they could not anticipate all future concerns, and would not even try to do so. So they created the amendment process. They also allowed for states to be far less limited than the federal government, so if some activity that was illegal for the federal government, needed to be done, you could either have an amendment or have the states do it.
