In my view the hammering can be a knee jerk reaction of people who are on margin and day trader as well as moneyed entities who had sold in the money options on an an option expiry day.

another thought i had is that goldman is a primary dealer in us bonds and treasuries. If they believe that interest rates are headed higher and are short long term bonds are they required to disclose this information everytime they market long term bonds to a buyer? I will be very surprised if this case goes to trial when all is said and done.
