And from the PC Gamer site

Unrealized

GT Interactive confirms that Unreal will not be available until some time in the "first half" of 1998, officially acknowledging the postponement for this oft-delayed title.

"Epic is continuing to make a lot of progress, we still believe this is a Triple A title," said a spokesperson for GT Interactive, the game's publisher. "[Delays are] a factor in this industry. It happens all the time."

A "first-half" of 1998 time frame is vague enough to indicate anywhere between January and June, though Epic's Mark Rein says "probably a February-March time frame" is more realistic. (Epic is the developer of the game).

GT's revised calendar brings them in line with Epic's thinking. GT had previously been saying November, while Epic has been saying all along that the game would be done "when it's done."

Rein admits that GT was really hoping for a Christmas release and the extra sales it would bring, but says that GT understands "that the difference between a 100,000 seller and a 500,000 seller is the extra time the developer spends on it," and that in this genre, the games are done when they are done.

For those interested in the progress of the game since the E3 and ECTS trade shows, a PowerVR version of Unreal will be shown at the Comdex computer show, being held in Las Vegas Nov. 17th-19th.

Cheers
