AFAIK, socialism says nothing about redistribution via taxation. Besides, taxation itself is redistribution, the only question has been who from and who to. Traditionally, it has been from the poorer to the richer. As far as from the rich to the poor, that happens a lot less in the US than any of the other OECD countries.
