BS, the USA proletariat has been fed stories about the Evil English, the redcoats, King George II and unfair taxes for so long that they have not noticed that they have become a far greater empire than ever the English became.

At least the English were considerate enough to make people of far off lands British Subjects with full rights as part of the empire. So a Maori slave could instantly become a proper person, put on a pair of pants and aspire to become Prime Minister. That was a lot better than being killed and eaten by his captors [Maoris of other tribes in case you get confused with slavery in America]. The USA doesn't extend such courtesies to the far flung corners of The Empire.
