Does unemployment insurance increase unemployment by 2% or .1% I don't claim to know, but people are more likely to delay taking a job that pays much less than their previous job, if they can get unemployment insurance.

So what? It's not the reason we suddenly have 10% unemployment when only a couple of years ago we were at 5%. Why make it an issue as a couple of republican politicians recently have? I'll tell you why...because there are always cynical receptive folks out there ready to embrace these notions to feed their negative addiction. It's very easy to seduce people with cynicism. Ask rush, glenn and the many others who make a living doing it.

It is done all the time. Nothing new about it.

The tech I saw at my doc's office yesterday was someone I known in a previous life. She got to telling me about her previous job, and how she could see they were going to fire her and decided to provoke them in such a way to qualify for unemployment. It was how she was able to afford training for her new career.

I've appeared at quite a few unemployment compensation hearings over the years - either representing a client or testifying on behalf of someone. The rules are downright unfair. I've seen people get benefit solely because their hours were cut back. Instead of working and making more money, they choose to go on unemployment.

The program is a terrible mess that needs to be severely curtailed as it only makes bad situations worse.
