If this is their "clarification", I am not impressed.

But amid growing reports of threats against House members and last weekend's Tea Party ugliness in Washington, D.C. -- where some Democrats said some activists lobbed racist and anti-gay epithets at them on their way to vote on health care legislation -- the gathering has taken on a larger significance.

They just don't get it, do they?

Our local NPR affiliate is having one of their begathons now. This morning I called them with my short prepared remark. It went like this:

Is this the NPR affiliate?

Yes, would you like to give us some money?

Well, in recognition of Frank James' story on the tea party movement and health care opponents as racist and homophobic, I think I'll decline to give you anything. But if the Republicans take Congress in the fall, I will ask my Congressman to cut off federal funds to public broadcasting.

Toward the end of this I thought I heard a click and assumed she'd hung up on me. As I was pressing the button though, I heard a short response but didn't make out what it was. Will call 'em again around lunch and in the afternoon.
