Re: [- because most of the big Union wage plans and whatnot will be renegotiated before then] "I suspect that more likely this specific tax increase will be delayed and pushed back again and again"

Nah.

That ain't gonna happen. 2019 is plenty long enough for (those few who are affected) folks to rearrange their compensation programs to totally avoid this tax on "Cadillac plans".

Re: [This will allow people to choose to spend their OWN MONEY for extra-cushy health insurance (if that is what they want to do)] "Sure it still allows them to do so, but it gives a specific penalty for doing it."

It merely regularizes the treatment of various forms of compensation --- by removing a particularly curious (mostly Union and big executives benefiting) tax shelter that has unfortunately acted as a big driver of health care costs, spurring health care cost inflation....

Re: "As for the Medicare tax, I think any tax increase on investment is rather foolish"

And I believe that *all forms of earnings* are potentially investment drivers and thus it is silly and counter-productive for the government to get involved with 'tilting the playing field' by favoring one form or earnings over another through complexities and disparate treatment in the tax codes.

I don't think that the government should be in the business of telling some guy who uses his back to dig ditches that his work is any less, or any more, 'valuable' then the work of someone who uses his mind to design computer code or make investment decisions.

The government should treat all earnings exactly the same without playing favorites.
