Thanks for the reply, Jacob. An excellent pump and a similar generator might each have an efficiency of 80%. 0.8 x 0.8 = 0.64, or 64% efficiency to store the energy. Then to reclaim the stored energy, if an excellent turbine is used, also at 80% efficiency, you get 0.8 x 0.64 = 0.512, or about 50% efficiency for the system.

50% ain't much to write home about. <GGG>

To make matters worse, I doubt that most components in such a system are really at an 80% efficiency level.
