Analysts cannot make chronically bad calls (opposite their intentions) or they would be unemployed.

Can't agree with this. The reason is that they aren't really paid to make good= accurate calls, at least not make these accurate calls public knowledge. Rather, they are paid to make money for those that employ them, which they often do by misleading "others" usually the public. They certainly tout stocks as their clients sell, and downgrade them as their clients buy. If you haven't noticed this, you need to take another look. I'm not saying every analyst does this on every call, but they do it often.

It is not about paranoia and it is not a matter of them being crook and I am not implying that they are a bunch of crooks. What I am saying is that like any other profession they are doing their employers good. Their emplyers are large brokerage houses that care more about someone with $500M than you or I with a lot lot less money!! You show me one stock (and here I am talking about a high tech stock) that analysts did not upgrade to a strong buy after which it fell below its price prior to the upgrade. And when it did fall, that same analyst/brokerage house downgraded the stock to a HOLD or whatever his grading scale was! And then after the downgrade the stock starts moving up! And this vicious cycle starts all over! Call me paranoid or whatever, but take my word: analysts are a bunch of jack-asses who work only for their respective big hot shot clients - Small players listening to them are just pawns being manipulated in the favor of the big boys of WS! Small players must do their own homework and thanks to internet it is now very easy for them to do so. Just following an analysts recommendation is, in my opinion, pure stupidity! And regretfully the majority of small investors continue to do so without themselves doing their own homework!
