I'm getting more details on this from the guy who sold the property. I'm beginning to think whoever handled his escrow screwed up.

That said, this new tax is huge. It's going to affect every sale of investment real estate, as well as other assets. It'll be of interest to see how the tax is reconciled with the rules for exclusion of gain on the sale of one's principal residence.
