Like when they moved to workstations to lay out chips and away from rubylith and Exacto knives. Are you saying that engineers are no more productive than they were 30 years ago? "The input provided by the worker to operate the register is no different than the input needed to operate an old-fashioned mechanical register." I am guessing you have never used a cash register. Suffice it to say the input is totally different.
