The mistake of the last three weeks has been a static assessment of the impact of the currency crisis. If I am in Malaysia intend to sell something overseas and there is a tradeoff between higher capital expenditures to make a product which i can then sell cheaper to the buyer, then it would be idiotic NOT TO build fabs at that time since, after all, the assumption is that the value of the product will exceed the cost of production. Currency crisis impacts Coke and Disney negatively since it is an endproduct, it may HELP semiequipment since it is not.
