4/30/10 Update
As the old expression goes: "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts"! So, the wary should not have been surprised by the week's market slump. And when the curtain dropped on Friday, the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 8.46% YTD (vs. up 11.50% YTD a week ago). But it wasn't all Greek tragedy on Wall Street. Greased by the FDA's approval of Dendreon's Provenge, the biotech machine's performance was healthier than the broad market. At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 11.53% YTD (vs. up 11.31% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 16.98% YTD (vs. up 17.77% YTD a week ago).
GHMM's portfolio (up 51.35% YTD) withstood a valiant challenge by JACKH's portfolio (up 49.28%) to hold on to first place. RKRW's portfolio (up 45.99% YTD) slipped back to third place.
At Friday's close, a remarkable 30 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black with 24 of the 32 topping the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week's Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables).
I'll be out of town next week, so no update until 5/14.
Have a great May Day weekend folks!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
