In the U.S., the only area with a lot of hydropower, and also a lot of windpower potential, is the Northwest. Even there, it will require an expensive grid upgrade, if wind becomes more than a few % of the total electricity supply.

Yes, Bonneville is working on some big projects that will allow a lot of wind to be integrated into the NW grid. Fortunately we have the most robust "grid" in the United States. A lot of redundancy. The "Feds" did a great job!
