Fuchi, James: RE: Preformance with no L2 cache.

You are right, Fuchi. The Cyrix MX-PR233 has a higher data rate to main memory because of its 75 MHz bus (or maybe 83 MHz, if you've set it to that). This means that the "penalty" for an L1 cache "miss" will not be as high on the Cyrix as it will be on the Pentium II.

Furthermore, the Pentium II has a smaller L1, cache, therefore there will be more penalties on the Pentium II.

On a true 32 bit OS like Windows NT or IBM OS/2, the penalty will be more severe.

I have a hard time even believing the 15% number, let alone 10%.

FuchiWu-RayW-Sherlie-InvestorA,

<In the following report, the OEM quoted that the performance difference between the L2 cacheless and cache PII could be less than ten percent. With Intel inferior memory architectures, do you believe that it is a correct statement?>

It's nice to see that you are having a lucid moment. You were able
to ask a rational question. Ask your nurse to maintain this dosage
level and electro-shock frequency. She's there to help you.

If these numbers are correct, you may have to come to grips with
the fact that the socket7 memory subsystem is really the one that is
years inferior, in fact it is years out of date. You should be able to
read up on it when your eye heals. Remember, a fork can be dangerous.
Ask your nurse for assistance. She's there to help you.

Your pal,

Elmer

Fuchi, re: 10% with L2 off on P-II <do you believe that it is a correct statement?> I am afraid that the statement could be correct because of DIB architecture. It could be easily verified, just disable the L2 cache in BIOS (I believe there must be an option). I do not have P-II handy and cannot verify this right now. However, I do know that for the PPro the performance drop is much more than 15%.

Regards,

Ali.
