Bob, is it an IRA account? If yes and if you really want to sell naked puts, try an account with interactivebrokers. I can sell naked puts as long as there's cash in the account to cover them.

Maybe your existing account permissions can be changed?

Needham & Company Maintains a 'Buy' on Cohu, Inc. (COHU); Revenue Upside & Strong Order Momentum

April 22, 2010 7:46 AM EDT

Needham & Company maintains a 'Buy' on Cohu, Inc. (Nasdaq: COHU), raises price target from $16 to $20.

Needham analyst says, "...This marks the second highest quarterly order level in Cohu's history and Rasco marked its record all time highest order level in Q1. Revenue guidance for Q2 was approximately $75M, or 16% growth Q/Q which is materially above our prior (and consensus) expectation of $61M. Q2 GM is expected to be flat to slightly up Q/Q which is below our prior forecast but is mostly offset by the revenue gains."

Bob,

My broker has about 4 levels of option permission for its account holders.

Selling naked PUTs requires the highest permission level. Essentially, they want to be certain that the client understands options, is a sophisticated investor and fully appreciates the risks being taken when selling uncovered calls or puts.

They bypassed that for me when I told them that I just wanted to be able to sell small numbers of Naked Puts in order to buy shares of the underlying for a cheaper net price than the current market.

Usually my broker would start new Options customers with authority to buy Calls or Puts and Sell covered calls.
