You cannot possibly believe that the viability of the financial system was dependent upon AIG paying out 100 % on CDS . The banks should have taken a loss. Look at the bonuses paid out TARP made it possible.

You mention that hindsight is 20/20 but Brooksley Borne head of the CFTC in the late 90s had the foresight to realize the dangers of unregulated derivatives but Greenspan, rubin and summers overuled her.
